JON STEINMEIER CREDENTIALS MUSIC LESSONS
Jonathan Steinmeier is a 2001 graduate of the Wheaton Conservatory of Music with a B.M. in Music Composition. He was awarded the Josephine Halvorsen Memorial Composition Prize as the top composition student in his graduating class. He also received some local recognition in Chicago in 2000 for his original score for Redmoon Theater’s production of “Deciphering Moonshadows.” (excerpt from Chicago Reader review) Jon has over 13 years of study in Piano and Drums, including a variety of styles and contexts. He was the Jefferson City High School marching drumline snare section leader in Missouri in 1995, and went on to Co-instruct the Reavis High School marching drumline in Burbank, Illinois in 2001. He was active in high school piano competitions in Missouri, including District and State competitions, Guild Auditions, and recital performances. Jon went on to the Wheaton Conservatory in 1997 and studied piano, drums, voice, and composition with some of the nations best Music Professors. His senior music composition recital stole the record for best attendance at a student recital (over 300 people) and included original works for piano quintet, percussion ensemble, solo piano, woodwind quintet, and rock band, to name a few. Since graduating from Wheaton, Jon has made a living teaching music, accompanying dance classes, and performing in contexts from banquets, to night clubs, to churches, to theaters, to some of the greatest music halls in the US. In 2003, Jon toured the US with Mavis Staples as her keyboardist, sharing stages with LL Cool J, Lenny Kravitz, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Solomon Burke, and Otis Clay. He also accompanied Paris Delane and Hyperharp as a drummer that same year. Current bands include the Detholz (who toured with Wilco in spring of 2005), Annie Quick (from Stickman Jones), Paris Delane's Tye Dye Skye, and Bobby Conn and The Glass Gypsies. Jon is thrilled to be teaching an ever-growing number of excited music students in Lincoln Square and Hyde Park, and to have had another great summer of music and theater with the Mathis Music Camp in Naperville IL, the National Guitar Workshop Chicago Summit, and Redmoon Theater’s production of “Love’s Me, Love’s Me Not” at The Museum of Science and Industry this September.
